The Burnet Institute needs five million dollars over five years to fund its Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies program. Sadly, at the moment in Papua New Guinea, more than 5,000 babies will die in the first 24 hours of life and another 10,000 perish before their fifth birthday. PNG mothers (and fathers) are very intelligent and caring people. To assist them, they just need access to some of the support, knowledge and research that we all take for granted here in Australia.
Last week Lynton travelled to PNG to shoot a series of images to assist with extending the awareness of this very important issue. The images documented PNG mothers, their babies and also the consultation between mothers, medical and Burnet research staff in PNG.
